exit slip for oct 28th

I did the "What we did in class wiki"
Items to talk about:
·         Progress on delicious:
o   Went to  our delicious page
o   We are supposed to add about 5 resources a week… 40 total
§  Needs at least 3 tags otherwise it won’t be counted
·         Can go back and edit
§  If you don’t have expected number then you don’t meet expectations
§  Add resources when you are doing other work for this class
·         Mid semester course evaluation
o   The evaluation was created in Google docs and there is a special kind of Google docs called Google forms
§  Take all responses and puts in a spread sheet for you
§  You could use Google form to create pre-tests
·         If students know certain material well you can alter instruction
·         Data driven decision making
o   Based on the course objectives and requirements we put down that the work load was High. He wants us to do that because he knows we can do it.
§  How many hours are you spending on average per week
·         You should be spending 9 hours a week on this course ( 3 times as many hours as you have credits)
o   Most of us want to stay with email for
Student led discussion Chapter 7 (Ashley and Dawn): the presentation can be retrieved under the book chapter schedule on D2L under “Ashley, Dawn”
·         What may be lost and what may be gained
·         Split into groups and discussed losses and gains
Pluses and minus for presentations:
-Set expectations before sharing the tool or the students breaking off into the group
                + google docs and impromptu when response didn’t work
                + thumbs up
                +scenarios help us think about real life experiences
-Keep audience in control
-Difficult to hear people in general : maybe have people stand when they are presenting or facilitator restates

Discuss Delicious Network
·         How to get a link to another person’s delicious page Via network
·         Click on another person’s tab “add to my network”
D2L
·         Go to D2L homepage to look at Professor Boyer’s online Calendar: He shows up about 9am
·         Click on online rooms… class says “what?”
o   Elluminate ( another tool similar to this is Adobe Connect)
§  click on yellow tab and download files
§  click allow, then run, finally I agree and ok to running on dsl/cable connection
§  collaborative chat room, white board, you can raise hands
§  It is a synchronies tool… could use for presentation. Good for when people are not face to face to conference.
§  It can be recorded, and played back later (i.e: if someone is unable to attend class)
§  Up to 6 cameras
§  Speaking is very controlled. You have to hold the button down if you want to talk.
§  Expensive to host
The steps for getting ready to do podcast (Due in 2 Weeks)
·         Highlighted Garage Band on Monday
o   Different steps required
o   Contemporary podcast
§  Needs to be related to technology and pk-12 learners
§  And has to be something recent
o   Need to find a way of representing this in a script
§  Overview of issue
§  Specific resource that I found
§  Hear some of our commentary, what we think about the issue
·         Both Mac and windows work but he encourages us to use Mac ( He has Microphones)
o   2 to 3 time limit for 1 person or 4 to 6 minutes for 2 people
o   Up to 15 seconds lead in music and up to 15 seconds lead out music
o   1 sound effect
o   Link to blog and share with the world
o   Need to put in royalty free sound effects
·         Issue about copy right…. If it is less than 30 seconds you can use it
Homework for next week…
·         Start working on script

·         Reminders of up and coming projects that are due in the next few weeks


This class helped to go over a lot of the assignments we are supposed to work on. I love this class, even when it has a lot of homework, because I feel like I am genuinely learning something that I can directly apply to teaching in school. This class is incredibly helpful!
