exit slip oct 21st


TECHNOLOGY WIKI AND HE IS DOING A CHECK OF DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!
We can actaully go into Jeff boyers office for help. This seems like a far fetched idea but we may actually do it! We also need to learn to self advocate. I like how he uses plus deltas versus positive and minus.
Rethinking education Ch. 6
I liked how they had the links easily accesable with big words vesus links. They also did something cool with google docs where we were able to all add to one paper at the same time as other groups. The big problem with google docs is people kept adding stupid information like “HI MOM”. It was completely unrelated to the subject. The big question is how are educators going to compensate for the knowledge explosion:
·         Teach them how to use it wisely
·         Potentially get to pick what topics we want to learn in a class (I.E.: what we want to leatrn in history)
·         Teaching more global, big picture ideas
o   Like problem solving
·         Parents -> state -> individuals and state
Debrief
Positive aspects:  google docs was a cool tool. Assigned to an area to talk about. Did a great job with navigation especially once they came around and checked. They assigned someone from each group to be the talker. They did a good job sharing for team teaching. Cool visual sharing.
Negatives:  google docs was distracting. they teach the students a cool tool and so we all stopped listening to them.  Expectations should be first. Couldn’t hear what the other groups were saying. Directions should be repeated. Anonymous users. They should have visual directions. Make sure all discussions are well planned. SPELL CHECK!!!! You need to present yourself in professional ways
Extra: google docs also has a variety of other aspects. Such as google presentation so you don’t have to email a power point back and forth. Look through all the other options. Goodle docs has a shared setting so only certain people can edit it. Set expectations first, then give them access to the tool. Choice vs. Canon: we need to consider the expectations we need to address. We have standards that have to be met, so how do you incorporate choice into a class.
SmartBoard
Locking objects:
use the arrow tool. Click on the objects to open editing frame (u can use it for rotating, resizing and several other items). Go to drop down menu and press lock. Allow move lets you move it around but not edit it. Once it is locked in place you can still unlock it and edit it. Click on symbol to unlock and edit changes.

How to group objects:
If you want word and object to become one object. Drag box around the obects to select both objects. Pick one drop down menu and drop down to right underneath locking and click on group. Now it is just one object. If you need to fix the text… go back to the drop down menu and press ungroup.
Infinite cloner:
Go to drop down menu and turn on infinite cloner. It is if you need the children to count something  like money and you want them to count out X amount of dollars.
Layout:
Make sure to make color choice compatible. When you route something through a projector the color screen will be more dull. Be sinsitive to color choices: dark backround= light text, light background= dark text, sometimes just black and white is the way to go. Now lets consider the amount and size of the text. Make it at least 24 min but 36 is recommended. When positioning text, especially for young students ( ie first graders), make them close to the ground so the students can use the smart board. Think about building a stage for students, or stick a dowel into a glove that you have stuffed. Don’t do toooo much text. 6x6 rule; no more than 6 lines of text with no more than 6 words per line. Therefore no more than 36 words per slide.
Integrating sound/link:
Hit drop down menu and use link/sound option. If sound is recorded you can use the sound directly. There are options for sounds that are prerecorded too.
SKYPE we can totally skype jtboyer to ask questions. But you don’t have to use the video part. You can share the screen!!!! ( it is up on top and it says share screen). We can get help without going to his office! Virtual office hours…. Sweet!!!!!!!!
Next week we are going to look at elluminate which is an online seminar. Teachers wont have to travel to conferences. Rather conferences come to you.
SWot analysis
Cool tool screen cast. For swat we do an analysis of a cool tool then do a screen cast. We choose a cool tool from the class wiki. The swot analysis has 4 components: Strengths, weeknesses, opportuniteis, and threats. Refer to class agenda week 8. It is due in 2 weeks.
